BE TRUE & BE YOU: A BASIC MENTAL HEALTH GUIDE FOR LGBTQ+ YOUTH

LGBTQ+ people experience health disparities—including lack of access to treatment, culturally unresponsive service provision, and higher levels of stigma and discrimination—that contribute to being three times more likely than non-LGBTQ+ peers to experience a mental health challenge.

With Each Mind Matters: California's Mental Health Movement, The Social Changery worked to address this issue through the creation of culturally-specific mental health resources for the LGBTQ+ community.

The 18-month process included a needs assessment, formative research, stakeholder interviews, copy development, focus group testing, culturally appropriate design elements, community outreach, and material dissemination. The project culminated in the development of mental health materials for three key segments of the LGBTQ+ population: youth/young adults, older adults, and providers working with Latinx immigrant youth.
